SUPPORT LOCAL FAMILIES, EDUCATION,
& SAFE COMMUNITIES
Across Hawaiʻi, the strength of our communities are reflected in how we support families, educate our keiki, and keep our neighborhoods safe. In District 21, where families, kūpuna, and students live side by side, those values shape everyday life.
Supporting local families starts with investing in childcare and early learning so parents can work and keiki can succeed from the start. It also means strengthening public education by supporting teachers, school staff, and programs that help students thrive academically and socially. Education is both an opportunity for individual growth, and a long-term investment in Hawaiʻi’s workforce and community.
Public safety is a critical part of this foundation, especially for kūpuna and families who want to feel secure in their neighborhoods. Safe communities rely on prevention, trust, and design choices that make everyday life safer. Well-lit streets, safe sidewalks, and accessible public spaces help kūpuna remain active and connected, while reducing risks for everyone.
District 21’s proximity to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa adds to the area’s vibrancy and diversity. At the same time, it requires thoughtful planning to ensure neighborhoods remain safe and livable for both students and longtime residents. Investing in appropriate student housing can reduce overcrowding, ease parking pressures, and prevent unsafe living conditions that strain neighborhoods.
Andrew believes that supporting families, education, and safety together — while planning responsibly for growing neighborhoods — creates resilient communities where students, families, and kūpuna can all thrive.
